Leadership is the ability of an individual or a group of people to influence and guide followers or members of an organization, society, or team.
Leadership often is an attribute tied to a person's title, seniority, or ranking in a hierarchy.
What Is the Importance of Leadership?
Leaders provide guidance, inspiration, and motivation when achieving goals. They help to create a vision and rally people around a common cause. Leaders possess the necessary skills and knowledge to make informed decisions and solve problems effectively.
What brings out the leader in you?
1. Competency: According to bestselling author, Malcolm Gladwell, it takes 10,000 hours to become an expert at anything. And it usually takes 10 years to accumulate those hours.
2. Humility: Draws people in and makes them feel closer to you. Learn to exalt others without inflating them and humble others without debasing them.
3. Authenticity: Be comfortable in your own shoes and do what you do best. Great thoughts on this by
Ruth Simmons, President of Brown University.
Authentic leadership is an approach to leadership that emphasizes building the leader's legitimacy through honest relationships with followers who value their input and are built on an ethical foundation. Generally, authentic leaders are positive people with truthful self-concepts who promote openness.
4. Motivation: Be careful how you think because your life is shaped by your thoughts.
Motivational leadership refers to someone leading others by motivating them to strive for certain goals rather than simply acting on orders. The leader tries to create a safe and trusting environment and ensure the organization is positioned for success in its domain—for example, a company in the marketplace.
5. Passion: Passionate teams have great morale.
6. Service: Ask “What can I do to make you better?” Serve the community.
Leadership is always Goals oriented and focused and yet flexible
A successful leader always should be open to change and willing to grow as both an authority figure and an individual. It is important to continuously work to improve your leadership skills to keep your skill set properly aligned with the constantly changing goals and priorities of today's professional workforce.
